May meeting announcements

This is an excellent chance to see a large number of mostly modern quilts and to check out some new-to-you blogs.
  • We called for volunteers! Thank you if you've put your name forward to help; we will be in touch. We have one person who is willing to co-chair our booth at the Fibrations festival on August 16th. Please let us know if you too want to co-chair.
  • Parksville Quilt Show is this weekend. Friday and Saturday - 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday - 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • May sew-in is Friday night (this Friday night). Cloth Castle, 7-11pm. 10$ to hang out and sew/cut/chat about whatever you like. Email us to RSVP.
And because it's boring without a picture, here are two of Krista's quilts.

Thanks everyone for another great meeting and see you soon!

May block lotto - Squash blossom block

This lovely geometric block is going to be awesome!

From the colour palette below, choose one MAIN colour (this will be scrappy). Choose a second, contrasting colour from the palette (this will be a solid). Use white SOLID for the background.

Cut List:
Background Fabric (white):
12 2.5” squares
6 3” squares
Feature Fabric (grey in diagram):
8  2.5” squares
8 3” squares
Accent Fabric (black in diagram):
2  3” squares

1. Using the 6 three inch squares of background fabric, and 6 of the three inch
squares of feature fabric, create 12 HST units. Trim to 2.5” unfinished.
2. Using the remaining 2 six inch squares of feature fabric and the 2 three inch
squares of the accent fabric, create 4 HST units. Trim to 2.5” unfinished.
3. Assemble block according to the diagram below.
4. Block is 12.5" unfinished.

Ta da, you're done! As always, one block = one lotto ticket, so make one, make lots!

It's Sew Mama Sew giveaway day!

Do you know about this awesomeness?

Sew Mama Sew (SMS) is a blog and sewing community founded in 2005. They collaborate with outstanding bloggers, designers, and authors to deliver unique, high-quality sewing content on a daily basis. (from their website)

AND! Twice a year they have a link-up for any craft/sewing blogger who wants to give away a prize of fabric, supplies, patterns or even a hand-made item.

That time is now and the links are open until Sunday, May 10th. Each blogger has a different question or requirement to enter for their prize but the best part is seeing so many different blogs. I've found some amazing quilters via the SMS giveaway day.

Happy browsing!
